1. What is the purpose of the Music Licensing Course?

It includes hands-on coaching, a speaker series, and professional guidance tailored for emerging creatives pursuing music industry careers. Developed in partnership with Underground Music Academy, Studio Express, and 2K Games, the course allows participants to submit tracks for potential inclusion in future 2K game releases. Two outstanding tracks from the course will be selected and licensed for use in a 2K game, providing a unique opportunity for recognition and exposure within the music and gaming industry.

2. What is the cost to participate?

Course fees for Music Licensing Course Winter 2024 are covered at no costs to selected applicants.

3. Why should I take this course?

This comprehensive course is designed to provide in-depth training in music licensing, mentorship for emerging creatives, and the opportunity to submit tracks for potential use in 2K games. Two exceptional tracks from the program will be chosen for licensing in a 2K game, offering valuable exposure within the music industry.

4. Will there be anything rewarded at the end?

Yes. At the completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate recognizing their achievement. Additionally, the selected standout tracks will be licensed for inclusion in a 2K game.

5. How many tracks will be chosen?

Accepted Answer

Two completed tracks will be chosen for this session based on direction during the 10-week course. (1 track from Studio Express and 1 track from the Underground Music Academy).

6. Will there be promotion for the chosen tracks?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The creators and their tracks will be announced publicly on social media platforms of 2K games, Underground Music Academy, and Studio Express.

7. Will there be compensation/royalties for the chosen tracks?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Chosen tracks will be given credit on the gaming platform as well as artist compensation at set 2K professional licensing rates.

8. If my track is chosen for this challenge, will I need legal representation or a formal contract to participate?

Accepted Answer

Participants will receive a copy of the licensing contract before the course begins. As with all agreements, it is highly recommended that participants seek advice from their own legal counsel before signing any contract. This step ensures a complete understanding of the terms and protects participant’s rights effectively.

9. Is the chosen track creator responsible for the monetary taxes?

Yes. Each person compensated for their track  will be responsible for taxes as determined by your city, state or country guidelines.

10. Who will be responsible for choosing tracks for the 2k release?

Accepted Answer

2K Games music licensing and supervising team will select the chosen tracks.

Question 11

11. What happens to my music after this process if I wasn't chosen?

Accepted Answer

You will retain your rights.  If your production is a co-production, the splits will be determined by those who created it. We do not own any portion of it.

12. Is it mandatory to complete the entire program to be eligible for your track to be chosen?

Yes. Each participant will be required to complete the entire 10-week program. Program guidelines will be provided upon notice of acceptance and at orientation.

13. Who is eligible to participate?

Music Licensing Course participants at Studio Express participants must be 16 years or older.
Must Commit to completing the entire 10-week training program commencing January 20, 2024. The class will meet weekly on Saturdays from 12pm-2pm CST.  
Participants for the Music Licensing Course must exhibit production, recording, mixing and/or mastering experience 
Interested applicants must submit a completed application which incudes one composition reflecting your production style. 
Must apply on or before January 5th at 11:59PM CST. **
